I removed it before six months each time because there was a piercing bump no amount of after piercing saline, wash, etc helped it to heal. how long piercings take to close varies from person to person. my helixes close in under 6 hours, even though i've had them for 1-5 years. my septum is much more forgiving, and i've never had to take out my lobes to find out. i know people who can take out jewelry from healed piercings for days with no issue though.
